This week, we would like you to meet Dr. Jen Faber, Author, Mindset Coach, and Lifestyle Entrepreneur.

HU:  What inspires you?

Answer: Choosing impermanence. When I decided to sell my successful practice and all of my possessions to rediscover my purpose, I found myself living in mini-chapters of life, moving from one location to the next. I was intentionally choosing to end a period of my life in a matter of weeks at a time, and it made me soak up every moment I had. That period made me realize that we all have a choice to choose to live with impermanence, rather than wait for something bad to happen in our life and wish we could turn back the clock. When you make this choice, you can use time as your ally, rather than feel like the clock is working against you.

HU:  What is your biggest achievement to date (personal or professional)?

Answer: Becoming an author. For the past 15 months, I have been writing, researching, and contemplating on all of the lessons I’ve learned being in practice, becoming an entrepreneur, and coaching others out of practice-life burnout. The end result is one of the greatest joys of my life to date. My new book “The 90 Day Life: How to Live More in 3 Months than You Have in 3 Years” is a 9-stage journey of taking the dreams you’ve been putting on the backburner and start taking action on them now.

I feel like I am living into the message of my book. Before I let go of everything I knew in my life, I realized I had been saying “no” to myself. No to my dreams. No to my deepest desires. No to the person I knew I could become. No to the bigger goals I had been burying in my mind for years. I was more stuck in my life and in my head than I wanted to admit.

Now, I step into my fears rather than let them hold me back.

HU:  What does a typical day look like for you?

Answer: I love my early morning routines to start my day centered and ready to go! So from 5-6am, I do my routine of visualization, affirmations, gratitude and exercise. Then I look at my goals and intentions for the day to set the stage for 5-6 hours of productive, focused work that usually involves a combination of content producing and sharing, as well as collaboration with my growing network. Then I’m off to crush it at the gym later afternoon. I barely watch TV, so most of my evenings are spent reading. I love being a consummate learner and have such a long list of books that I have to plan out my reading schedule for the rest of the year!

HU: What is your favorite current project and why?

Answer:  My Live Now Podcast. I love being able to interview thought leaders and people who have stories of transformation and courage. Every week I feature a guest who had a tipping point in their life and create something great as a result.

HU: If you could switch jobs with someone, who would it be and why?

Answer: Personally, I wouldn’t. I love the freedom of being an entrepreneur and being able to pick up and change locations any time I choose. I love the independence of it all and wouldn’t trade it for anything. I used to feel stuck working in a job earlier in my career because I felt boxed in. I couldn’t be me. Now I feel like I can keep discovering new layers of who I am, who I want to become, and how I want to serve.

HU: What are your biggest professional challenges?

Answer: I see this as more of an opportunity than a challenge. My focus is how can I challenge myself to shed new light on personal growth and motivation. The opportunity is to provide a unique perspective on what letting go of everything I knew to rebuild my life has taught me and how can I convey that to others, so they don’t live their lives waiting for Fridays or retirement, but rather, live now.

HU: What’s the most rewarding aspect about your career?

Answer: It’s really the constant evolution of it all. As an entrepreneur, I am driven by two things - freedom and impact – and how to help others experience more of it. The most rewarding thing I am hearing now is “your book came to me at just the right time.” I love those moments of serendipity in someone seeing my book, videos, etc. exactly when they need it. There is truly nothing more rewarding than being able to create a life wake-up call for people who feel stuck.

HU:  What is your motto or personal mantra?

Answer: If you’re depressed, you’re living in the past. If you’re anxious, you’re living into the future. If you’re happy, you’re living in the present.

HU: How do you maintain a healthy work/life balance?

Answer: I carve out time for myself every day. That’s the single most important thing. I used to get so lost in my work. As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to keep choosing to work on the next thing, because there will always be something to work on. I started to recognize that by living more into the balance I am so passionate coaching about, that I was actually becoming a healthier, happier version of me. So I make sure to have a minimum of 1 hour a day as “me time.”

HU: What is the greatest obstacle you have overcome?

Answer: Attachments from decisions of my past. While I was very comfortable and happy having a house call practice, my heart kept pulling me in a direction to inspire others to break out of burnout like I did. I wanted to create a way of life and impact where I could make sure that no one else felt trapped in a box in their work, health, life, or relationships like I did. While I could have stayed comfortable in a thriving practice I was proud to have built, I knew my purpose was bigger and that I was supposed to shift my energy to mentoring others who were seeking unconventional ways to work and live like I was. To show them what was possible, that they’re not alone, and that there is more out there for them.

By letting go of the attachments of my past decisions, I was able to change the course of my future and step more into who I really am and how I want to impact the world.

HU: What do you hope to share with the HU community?

Answer: I hope to share unconventional ways to live and start taking action on the things they’ve been saying no to. In my years as a mindset coach, I’ve seen far too many people put their lives on hold because they listen to the opinions of what others think is best for them, or they’re waiting for the right time, the right job, the right amount of money, or retirement to take action. Or they find themselves seeking some magical “system” or some “charismatic leader” to grab them by the hand and march them on a path that’s already laid out for them. They look to something outside of themselves to create their life for them. So they end up following a path that is not truly their own.

If that’s you, you’re not alone. I, too, have found myself in this position. We wait for the right circumstances to appear, so we can then take action. And all waiting does is make you a passive bystander in your life, hoping that something will change to make your life better.

The purpose of my book is not to just give you some rote system to follow. My goal is to give you the framework to discover the life you want and the knowledge to empower yourself to create it in just 90 days.

HU: What do you hope to learn/gain from the HU community?

Answer: I hope to gain a sense of collaboration and partnership. We are stronger together than we are working individually. I believe the HU Community’s initiative is one that is needed now more than ever. The health of the world is being challenged by more environmental, social, mental, and physical stresses. If we can work together to share our gifts and knowledge, then I believe we can create a healthier planet.

HU:  Why should people get your new book “The 90 Day Life: How to Live More in 3 Months than You Have in 3 Years?”

Answer: Too many people think that the formula for doing what they want is to wait for this golden opportunity to arrive somewhere in the hazy future - rather than taking the time that's right in front of them.

This leaves us distracted, filling our lives with busy work, and chatter. I believe that’s why so many people in the health & wellness industry are dealing with burnout. I was there. Two years into my work as a chiropractor, I was ready to up and quit from all of the stress and pressure of working in a high volume practice, until I figured out how to build a completely unconventional way of practice. That was the start of finding my true path of who I wanted to be and how I wanted to practice. It was the stepping stone of where I am today. I never wanted to feel like I was being put in a box and now I’m on a mission to make sure no one else feels the same.

The 90 Day Life is about helping you stop putting your life on hold, and start taking action now.
