Tired

by Lisa Chilvers ~

I pride myself on having a strong immune system. I rarely get sick and when I do it’s gone in 24 hours flat. Not this time. As I’m writing this, my nose has been running for several days and the pressure in my head is mounting – I think it may explode. Some would reach for the cough drops and cold medicine. The problem is these remedies cover up the symptoms and do nothing to improve immune system function. I’ve searched, asked and tried and these are 13 Natural Ways to Fight Off Colds and Keep Your Immune System Strong all Year Long:

Eat the Rainbow: Eating a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables will ensure you get enough immune building Vitamin C.

Complex Carbohydrates: Oatmeal, kamut, wheat germ bran, legumes (peanuts) selenium, magnesium, zinc, beta glucan are known to boost immune function.

High Quality Protein:  Lean sources of protein pump up your body’s ability to make disease-fighting antibodies. Turn to low fat dairy, organic soy, beans, nuts, organic fish or organic poultry as your source for power-packed protein.

Vitamin D3: Colder climates make it difficult for people to get enough Vitamin D3 from the sun. It is recommended to get at least 1000 – 10,000 IU per day. Read the labels of other product you are on. Ask your healthcare provider for a blood test to see if you are deficient.

Ingest Bacteria:  Taking probiotics has been shown to reduce the occurrence of colds and flu symptoms. A happy gut means a healthy immune system. Click to learn about which probiotics do what.

Let Them Eat Soup: Organic, homemade soup shortens the duration of a cold by 50%. When you add garlic and hot pepper, the two go to work by fighting infection and reducing mucus. Use our recipe for mineralizing chicken soup to boost your immune system this cold and flu season.

Sleep: Stress and sleeplessness are proven to contribute to an unhealthy immune system.

Drink Silver: Colloidal silver appears to be a powerful natural antibiotic and preventative against infections. Acting as a catalyst, it reportedly disables the enzyme that one-celled bacteria, viruses and fungi need for their oxygen metabolism.

Independent studies have concluded colloidal silver can be an effective agent against many different types of infections and is toxic in certain amounts to many types of fungus, parasites, protozoa, bacteria and certain viruses.

Colloidal silver can interact with penicillin, quinolones, tetracycline and thryroxine drugs.

Echinacea and Astragalus: Echinacea increases the levels of a chemical called properdin in the body, which activates part of the immune system responsible for increasing the defense mechanisms against bacteria and viruses.

The Chinese herb, Astragalus is often regarded as Asia’s answer to America’s Echinacea. Studies have shown it to have anti-viral properties.

Wash Your Hands:  This may be the single best way to combat germs and protect yourself from infectious diseases like colds or flus.  Hands pick up microorganisms, and even when they look clean they are carrying germs. When you wash up, you’re ensuring that you and others stay healthy this season.

Sneeze Into Your Sleeve: It sounds so obvious – spreading germs to your hands is just counterintuitive, so if you aren’t already, sneeze into you your sleeve PLEASE!

Rinse Your Nose: Using a neti pot irrigation system will help to flush out viruses and bacteria harbouring in your snout before they get a chance to infect your body.

Sorry just thought would add this as thought would look it up as not heard of the colloidal silver before. I copied this from wikepedia not sure how accurate it is or if you know of safer new products that don’t have the adverse side effects!!?? -
Since the 1990s, “colloidal silver”, a liquid suspension of microscopic silver particles, has been marketed as an alternative medicine, often claiming impressive “cure-all” qualities. The effectiveness of these products has never been scientifically proven, and in some jurisdictions, it is currently illegal to include such claims in product advertisements.[14] Medical authorities and publications advise against the ingestion of colloidal silver preparations, because of their lack of proven effectiveness and because of the risk of adverse side effects, such as argyria.[2][15][16][17] Historically, colloidal silver was also used as an internal medication to treat a variety of diseases. Their use was largely discontinued in the 1940s, due to the development of safe and effective modern antibiotics and concern about adverse side effects.[17][18]

Thanks for putting up this other perspective. I
think it’s important that concerns are discussed.

I have not known of any negative “side effect”
from using colloidal silver, it is actually very safe. I’ve used it for eye and
ear infections, skin wounds and internally as an anti-viral agent. I’ve even
used it on a dog with ringworm and it cleared up within three days. Silver is a
known antibacterial substance, as it is used in bandages at hospitals caring
for burn victims and is used in carbon filters such as the Britta Filter to
kill bacteria.

The effectiveness of modern antibiotics cannot be
understated, yet the side effects of using them too often has had a negative
impact on our immune system function.

I’ve used Nature’s Sunshine Silver Shield. It’s
always been a safe and effective product. Like with all natural and pharmaceutical products, a proper safe dose must be followed.
